I am working on a new pattern – a cowl using half a skein of fingering weight yarn. The pattern is called Hanois Cowl (at least that’s the working title). I’ll explain the inspiration when I release the pattern.
This is my first attempt. I am really happy with the lace design and the lines running down the cowl make it really easy to spot if you’ve made a mistake and know where you are in the pattern. The scalloped edges are pleasing too, and with strategic blocking the cowl splays at the bottom. Happy days.
What I’m not entirely happy with is the cast off at the top. I used a sewn, stretchy cast off (as I would with a sock) as it needs to get over a person’s head. However, it’s a bit too stretchy and needs more structure so the top is straight (in contrast with the scalloped bottom). But it cannot be tight. I’ll continue to experiment with cast offs (looking at a different sewn cast off and perhaps i-cord too).
